The partner spotlight is a weekly series where we go behind the scenes with some of the companies that make VendorDB great.  Leading off is Metajive!

The Vitals:

Company: Metajive

Location: Del Mar, CA

Year Founded: 2001 (in a dorm room)

Specialties: Merging the capabilities of design and code. We focus on agency partnerships for interactive execution.

What inspired you to start your company?

Metajive was originally meant to be an online snowboarding news site. Website design and development just came naturally. The company formed organically when I started needing more and more help to get projects done (people and expertise).

What was the first job someone hired you for?

The first Metajive project is still under NDA but it involved a lot of flash production for the “world’s most famous mouse”.

What was the most technically challenging work you’ve created?

We created an app for Porsche that leveraged real world driving challenges and required merging multiple inputs for “German precision.”

Which work or brand are you best known for?

We worked with Banana Republic to launch Project Runway.  The show was such a breakout hit it defined us for years (helping win a 300 million dollar account for McCann Ericsson with their first digital pitch didn’t hurt either).

Which project is your most underrated?

Ernieball.com.  It was such a pleasure to work with an authentic brand that had as much heritage as almost all of the other brands we have work with combined.

What is the smartest work you’ve seen in the past year that didn’t come from your shop?

Life Size Messi was my favorite piece from last year.  The execution was brilliant and it made you want to explore. It’s so rare to get excited about an idea on the web like this anymore.

How has the business changed since you started?

Flash dying was a game changer, we are a shop who cares about “creating great experiences”.  So we went through a few years where there was not a toolkit to create experiences and the internet shifted to be about tools.  Now with all the Javascript libraries the web is our playground again.

What emerging tech trend will have the biggest impact on your business?

We are really excited about touch designer and installations at the shop now.  We see this as a natural evolution of the skills we have cultivated at the shop.  It is so exciting to see people interact with large scale objects, when people touch something it is a deeper impact.

Where is the best bar in Del Mar?

Bully’s is located almost directly above the office, 5 steps tops!

Care to share a joke?

Our jokes are rarely SFW…
