What was the first job someone hired you for?

The first notable job I got was for iD Mag (design not fashion) it was a portrait spread and a product feature (6 pages total) next one was a month later for the cover of same magazine.

How has the business changed since you started?

In a word: digital

Has the craft lost anything by going digital?

I would not say it’s lost anything, but it sure has gained about a million people who call themselves “photographers.” On second thought… it’s actually lost some exclusivity.

Which project is your most underrated?

I would say all my music work gets pushed to the side a little; I think it’s because I usually take things really far and the labels are frightened of that kind of stuff.

What advice do you have for agency producers or creative?

Communicate and be honest, plus hire the photographers who created your inspiration not someone to recreate it!

What is the smartest work you’ve seen in the past year that didn’t come from your shop?

I think I could say that Erik Johansson’s work is pretty mind blowing, not that I want to create that type of work but the creativity, imagination and skill is definitely an inspiration.

Any celebrity you’ve shot cooler than you expected?

Misha Barishnikov was so so chill and very funny (the dirty kind of funny).

What advice would you give to Regular Joe iPhone to take a better picture?

I kind of shoot everything all the time now that my phone is good enough to capture life’s little moments but if you’re using your phone don’t take it too seriously, yes the images can be beautiful but “taking” a photograph is by no means equivalent to “making” a photograph.

Where is the best bar in Brooklyn?

Maison Premiere

Any wild company party stories?

Every time I have a Halloween Party about 300 people have wild stories to tell!
